Grammy award-winner Sam Smith’s performances in Norfolk this summer could be in doubt after doctors found a haemorrhage on his vocal chords.

The 22-year-old has cancelled the rest of his Australian tour following the discovery of his ailment.

Smith was due to perform in Norwich at BBC Radio One’s Big Weekend on May 24 and in Thetford Forest on July 3.

After performing in Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion last night, he was scheduled to appear in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

The In The Lonely Hour tour is set to continue in Japan, the US and Europe.

Smith wrote on his Instagram page: “I am deeply, deeply saddened to tell my Australian fans, I have to cancel my Australian tour.

“I have been vocally exhausted for a while now, however last night in Sydney I had a small haemorrhage on my vocal cords.

“The doctors have told me I need to fully rest until my vocal cords have healed, otherwise this could become a huge, long-term issue.”

The Stay With Me singer apologised to fans who have bought tickets and said new dates would be announced, before signing off: “This kills me.”
