BREAKING NEWS - Tributes continue to flood in for young crash victim
FRIENDS, family and well-wishers have expressed their sadness at the death of a three-year-old after he was involved in a road accident yesterday evening.
Around 20 floral tributes have been left at the scene of the accident in King Street, some with personal messages.
One said: “RIP lil man. Hope you’re playing with all the other angels. Taken too soon.”
Another said: “Our sympathy goes out to the loss of a little boy and to the family. May he rest in peace.”
Others flooded social networking sites Facebook and Twitter with both messages of sympathy for the boy’s family and criticism of the decision to keep the road open while the Mart is in town.
Twitter users posted the hashtag #RIPlittleRio to end their tweets in memory of the little boy.
Jack Gillard wrote: “Why does it take something so tragic to realise an evident problem? This could have been avoided.”
Andy Melville tweeted: “The whole town is shocked and very sad tonight. Lost for words.
“My heart goes out to the family of little Rio. But PLEASE spare a thought for the driver, who is undoubtedly in shock.
“In my opinion the Mart should close out of respect #RIP little Rio”
The Lynn Soccer School’s account added: “Tragic news last night in King’s Lynn, our thoughts are with the parents.”
And Charley Beamis tweeted: “RIP little Rio - 3 years is no age to go.”
Meanwhile, others commented about the tragedy on the Lynn News website:
One said: “I drove down there Tuesday afternoon. A woman walked across the road with two very young children right across the front of me causing me to brake sharply to avoid hitting her. She didn’t really look before crossing the road, luckily I was only doing about 10mph.
“I said to my wife at the time that there was going to be an accident there sooner or later. I didn’t know anything about the tragedy that was about to occur the next day, but my feelings go out to the car driver who will have to love with this for the rest of his life, even if he is absolved of all blame.”
Another added: “I was there earlier – it’s a 20mph zone and despite this AND the fact that there were kiddies around, people were still driving like maniacs. And not just the boy racers either – grown women in 4x4’s with children in the back just expecting pedestrians to jump out of their way.
“It’s not the council highways dept at fault, it’s the idiots who can’t behave like adults and drive accordingly.”
And another comment read: “Questions will be asked of the local council tonight after the tragic death of the 3 year old little boy in King’s Lynn tonight. Hundreds of people take their children to the Mart every year. Children get excited about the rides and bright lights. A split second is all it takes and tragedy strikes.
“Why were the roads around the fun fair not closed off? We close the roads off for runners every year so why not for parents and children when this event takes place. I don’t personally know the little boy, but our thoughts go out to his family at this sad time.”
