King’s Lynn tot death: Hundreds sign Mart petition

MORE than 1,700 have signed an online petition calling for roads around Lynn Mart to be closed for its duration after a three-year-old boy was killed nearby last night.

The petition was launched within hours of the tragic incident.

The petition says: “On Wednesday, 15th February 2012, a three year old boy had his life cut short by a driver, at the King’s Lynn Mart.

“The council shut off the roads for the Great East Anglian Race and Festival Too every year, so why not the mart? With excitable youngsters running around, running to and from rides, crossing roads, why aren’t they shut? Hopefully now a tragic accident has occurred, the council sit up and take notice! But it shouldn’t be that way! Why should someone sacrifice a life for change to happen?”

It adds: “A petition requires 250 signatures to become valid and require a response from the Borough Council. A petition with 2500 signatures or more will require a senior officer attending one of the Council’s Panel meetings to discuss the issue and a petition with over 5000 signatures will trigger a debate on the petition at full Council.”

The petition can be found at: http://www.change.org/petitions/borough-council-of-kings-lynn-west-norfolk-close-off-roads-to-all-traffic-surrounding-the-mart?utm_medium=facebook&utm_source=share_petition&utm_term=own_wall

A blue Audi A4 was in collision with the boy at around 5.30pm in King Street close to the junction with Ferry Street.
