Lynn: Roads around Mart will stay open

OFFICIALS in charge of safety surrounding Lynn Mart called an emergency meeting this afternoon following the death of a three-year-old in a road collision, but agreed to keep roads in Tuesday Market Place open.

More than 2,500 people have signed an online petition calling for the market place to be closed to traffic for the duration of the Mart, which is due to run until February 28.

Representatives from Norfolk police, Norfolk County Council highways, West Norfolk Council and the Showman’s Guild, who decide safety arrangements in advance of the Mart met yesterday.

Following the meeting, a West Norfolk Council spokesman said: “They met because everyone is concerned and devastated at this.

“The outcome was, they have to wait for the outcome of the police investigation into the road traffic collision.

“Once the police have got that they will issue a report to county highways because county highways is responsible for road closures and they will say whether or not any action needs to be taken.”
