An elderly man died and a woman cyclist is in a critical condition in Addenbrooke’s Hospital at Cambridge after a collision on the A1065 at South Raynham yesterday (Thursday) afternoon.

Police and the East Anglian Air Ambulance were called to the collision between a green Nissan Micra and a green Dawes Galaxy pedal cycle at around 4.20pm.

The driver of the Micra, an 84-year-old Sheringham man, died at the scene.

The 31-year-old cyclist, from Westcliff-on-Sea in Essex, suffered serious head and internal injuries, as well as broken bones. She was airlifted to the Cambridge hospital, where her condition this morning was described as critical.

A Norfolk police spokesman said: “Diversions were put in place to allow emergency personnel to attend the scene and for police to carry out initial investigations. These were lifted at about 8pm.

“Officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have spotted a green/silver coloured cycle travelling towards Swaffham, the manner of driving of the Micra or witnessed the incident itself.

“They should contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team at Wymondham roads policing on the non-emergency 101 number.”
