An England rugby player has paid tribute to Fakenham teenager, Craig Prior, who died suddenly last week leaving friends and family devastated.
Ben Youngs, who comes from Norwich, tweeted to over 32,000 followers on Saturday. He said: “I want to pay tribute to Craig Prior a talented, friendly, loved rugby player for Fakenham rugby club. Thoughts go to family and friends.”
The tweet was retweeted 148 times by fellow rugby players, family, friends and suppporters.
As a mark of respect for Craig, Fakenham Rugby Club postponed both of their scheduled weekend fixtures.
A brief statement on the club’s website, on Friday, read: “It is with great sadness that we have to inform you of the sudden collapse and death of Craig Prior on Monday evening.
“Loved by all, he will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.
“Out of respect there will be no first or second team games this week.”
The tributes to Craig have been flooding in since his death last Monday, and his family are now setting up the Craig Prior Memorial Fund in his memory.
He brother, Roger Palmer, said: “We as a family are now setting up a charitable fund that we hope will be able to carry on helping the sport of rugby long after we honour our pledge to get Craig’s scrummage machine. We would hope to be able to use funds to encourage young children into the sport.”
