Organisers of Norfolk’s Village Games say more and more communities are being inspired to take part in the event every year.

Residents in several communities across West Norfolk are preparing to take on rival teams from across the county at this year’s finals, which are being held at the University of East Anglia in Norwich this Sunday, July 13.

Now in its fourth year, officials say the competition is vital to bring communities together and to keep them active.

Ben Jones, director of Active Norfolk, who are staging the event, said: “We are keen that rural sport continues to grow in Norfolk, and the Village Games shows how well communities and people of all ages can join together.

“The potential and enthusiasm behind the project is certainly there and we look forward to this day every year.”

Three teams will be representing West Norfolk at this year’s games, led by Downham Market in the section for large villages or small market towns.

Feltwell will be contesting the medium villages section, while the combined forces of Harpley, Houghton and the Massinghams will contest the small village category.

The Harpley, Houghton and Massinghams team won their category at the borough’s games two weeks ago.
