West Norfolk veterans' late honours

SERVICEMEN and women who served to protect the independence of Malaysia are to have their efforts recognised – more than 40 years on.

West Norfolk veterans will be among around 300 people from Norfolk and nearby counties receiving the long-awaited Pingat Jasa Malaysia Medal at a service at Norwich football ground on Tuesday.

Special exceptions have finally been made to allow British service personnel the right to receive the medal from the Malaysian Government, but there is still an ongoing row over their official right to wear it because of long-standing rules governing foreign medals.
