Bookings are now being taken for a pioneering scheme to help dementia sufferers and their carers to get out.

The Chequers in Wimbotsham and Norfolk County Council are running a monthly lunch to help patients and their carers socialise.

The first lunch will be held on Thursday, January 29, and so far 15 bookings have been taken to enjoy cottage pie and apple crumble.

Landlady Kim Brockhouse said: “We have a family member with dementia and appreciate how hard it can be.

“We are hoping to make it really comfortable.”

Adult care development worker Gemma Liczbinski said: “The interest has been encouraging. After speaking to some people who have relatives with dementia they feel this will bring back part of a normal life style.

“This has not been done in the area before.” Meals cost £9.50 for two people or £4.50 for one. Call 01366 386768.
