Years of hard work put in by villagers and friends will culminate in the New Year when work finally starts.
Currently the village play area holds very little but a few stumps of equipment which have been removed.
But soon a zip wire, swing and a host of other new equipment will be installed.
Project manager Jo Button is hoping the installation will be finished in February, unless the weather causes a problem.
Mrs Button, who now lives in Marshland St James, said: “This is going to make a big difference to the village. At the moment there is nothing for the children to do and they have nowhere to go.
“Everyone really wants this to happen as it has been going on for such a long time.”
The new play area has been funded by £10,000 from the Brigstock and Warren charity along with £15,000 from Fenland District Council, plus other grants and fundraising efforts.
The project to improve the area was started some years ago by the late Sheila Long.
