After the success of last year’s inaugural Mart School, staff and volunteers at Lynn’s Arts Centre were looking forward to welcoming back children from the travelling community.
Lynn Arts Centre director, Liz Falconbridge, said: “We are thrilled at the success of this initiative. It makes great sense as the Arts Centre is an ideal nearby location and the unusual gallery setting offers a school with a difference where the exhibitions stimulate the imagination and creativity of the children.
“Besides, as far as we know, this is the first ever Mart School in a gallery!”
Last year, the Traveller Education Service operated out of the Arts Centre to inspire the children by using the two newest exhibitions as a basis for work across the curriculum.
This year’s exhibitions have been programmed with the Mart School in mind, with the curriculum to be set around the comic book/tattoo-like illustrations of Andy Gatrell, the collaged flower paintings of Simon Smith and the vibrant ceramics of Paul Ebbens.
Artist Andy Gatrell will also be on hand to meet the children, show them the exhibitions and lead art workshops in comic book illustrations, family crests, screen-printing and collage.
Norwich’s Writers’ Centre will also be on hand to help develop the children’s imaginative writing skills.
