That’s Entertainment: Friday, April 3rd

I mentioned several last week but another family fun event has come to my attention with the chance of winning Easter chocolate. Staff at the Custom House in King’s Lynn are organising a puzzle-based Easter Hunt for families from now until April 12. All you have to do is collect an Easter-themed puzzle sheet from the staff at the TIC, and explore the exhibition areas for 10 pieces to complete the puzzle. If all is correct the Easter chocolate prize could be yours and at the same time you may also learn a little about Lynn’s maritime heritage into the bargain.

For further information contact Karen on 01553 763044; admission is usually £1 for adults and 50p for children. What a bargain!

Talking of The Custom House reminds me to mention the fun spectators had last Friday at the opening of the Lynn Lumiere. I enjoyed, with many others, music provided by The Hound Dogs Band, listening to KL.FM broadcasting live and then watching the amazing spectacle of the chosen selection of historic Lynn buildings being illuminated.

With other entertaining diversions it was quite a night ... and the displays can now be seen nightly throughout the year.

Before we get to the music spot I notice that the second Pat Midgley Memorial Lecture is being held on Thursday, April 9, at Lynn Town Hall (7pm). The guest speaker is Des Pawson on “For Sailor Rigger and Sailmaker”. For all the details and more phone 01553 770479 or visit www.truesyard.co.uk

I have been given details of King’s Lynn Town Band summer concerts 2015; there are some great gigs at some excellent venues from Mid-May coming up so keep reading the column for details in the future or visit www.kingslynntownband.co.uk

The King’s Morris (The Morris Men of King’s Lynn) have also got a full programme of exciting events coming up; today I just mention the dancing on Easter Monday at Snettisham’s Rose and Crown, 11.30am; Heacham Norfolk Lavender visitor centre, 12.30pm; and Thornham’s Lifeboat Inn, 1.30pm. Let’s hope for great weather. Contact Bagman David Jackson on 01553 768930 for further details.

Distinguished violinist Michael Foyle and pianist Maksim Stsura give a recital at King’s Lynn Arts Centre on the evening of April 17 starting at 7.30pm and featuring music by Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms and Kreisler. It’s part of The King’s Lynn Festival Winter Series (another great season this time) and bearing in mind Michael Foyle was a past BBC Young Musician of the Year it’s bound to be an amazing concert – enjoy! Call on 01553 764864 for tickets.

A chamber music concert featuring Laura Samuel violin, Simon Rowland-Jones viola, Alasdair Tait cello and Carole Presland piano is being held at Holkham Hall on April 25 starting at 7pm. For more details call on 01328 713111. We are certainly spoilt for choice!

Lastly don’t forget the excellent exhibitions held at both the Greyfriars Art Space and Arts Centre galleries in Lynn. Between them we are certainly spoilt for choice.

Even if you are not eating, hunting or painting Easter Eggs this weekend have a great time.
