Henry Bellingham justifies earning an additional £66,000 on top of his MP’s salary by claiming that “the House of Commons is stronger having MPs with outside interests.
They understand a little bit about the real world”.
I suggest that getting £66k isn’t representative of the real world that most of us live in, especially in West Norfolk where wages are £100 a week less than the national average. The real world I live in is one where people are unfairly sanctioned and have their benefits cuts, the real world I live in sees people who are in work needing to use food banks and claim in-work benefits because of low pay and zero hours contracts and the real world I live in sees hard working healthcare staff and others in the public sector face pay freezes, pay cuts or below inflation increases.
I suggest that our MP use his four hours a week he claims to spend on his business interests talking to those who need to use the Genesis Housing Association, or Purfleet Trust, then he might actually know a bit about the real world.
