I am sorry that Mr Fleming had such a disappointing experience when visiting St. Edmund’s (Letters, November 25). The Church of England is a broad community ranging from the Evangelical to the Anglo-Catholic. We are free to choose services that meet our spiritual needs.

Together with many others, including a number of young people, I find our weekly Mass and other services comforting and profoundly inspiring.

As for the building, it is of historic significance and the only Grade 1 listed building in the area. As such, it is in constant need of repair and renovation.

The current works are part of an ongoing plan to alter sympathetically the interior of the church so as to provide space and facilities that will make the church available for a wide variety of uses.

I hope Mr. Fleming will visit us again so that we may welcome him and explain our mission.

Leonard Allen,

The Street, Marham
