Have your say

My mother is currently self employed and earns between £60-£90 per week.

So how does the local council act when this hard working woman decides to be honest with them when her boyfriend moves in?

By deciding to cut all of her benefits and charge her £80 a week for rent and then claim that she owes them around four months of her wages. How is she supposed to pay her other bills like water, heating or that most extravagant of luxuries, food?!

The man in question also works hard and has recently suffered from ill health.

When they went to the council to ask for some help in the matter and some simple human decency and common sense, all they got in response was a simple “Tough”.

How are people supposed to live when over 90 per cent of their wages go on paying the bills?
