Have your say

I have noticed the rapid disappearance in the wake of the demolition bulldozers of the old Beales department store at the eastern entrance to the Vancouver Shopping Quarter in Lynn town centre.

No doubt many of us will await with interest to see if the finished new building matches the artist’s impression of the new store to be occupied, reportedly, mainly by the fashion chain H&M.

But is seems that with any gain there is a loss.

In this case there appears to be two main losses. The once beautifully-shaped abundant leaf tree that stood outside the old Beales store, opposite Argos, is no more. It has been cut down with only the ground-level part of the trunk remaining.

Did people realise that this beautiful tree (I am not sure which species it was) would be lost in the redevelopment of the new store?

The second loss is space. Previously there was an attractive “splayed out”open space area fronting the main entrance doors to the old Beales store. It appears that in the new building all (if not most) of this space will be taken up by the new scheme leaving a much narrower walkway from Costa Coffee to opposite the TK Max store. Sometimes progress and change is not always for the better.
