A safer crossing for Poppyfields is now a step closer, thanks to the county council’s extension of the Parish Partnerships Scheme to villages with no parish council.

This is a real chance to turn a glimmer of hope into sunshine for all the children, parents and residents of Poppyfields Estate who are still marooned on the wrong side of the old A17 and can’t cross the road safely. But only if everyone is willing to work together. The local stalwarts of the West Lynn Forum, which campaigned for a crossing at Poppyfields, returned a sum of £700 to the borough council in May 2014. This money was given specifically for the people of West Lynn but was returned when the West Lynn Forum was wound up. It would be the right thing for the borough to return this to help fund the Feasibility Study, the crucial next step before a bid can be submitted to the borough council’s Area Committee. This is an appeal to the borough to help a village that currently has the worst of both worlds and return the £700 today.

Remember, West Lynn has no parish council to raise funds and submit local bids but, though officially a town ward, does not benefit from the regeneration and infrastructure seen elsewhere in Lynn. The race is on to get the Feasibility Study done immediately in time to submit a bid to the Area Committee.
