Have your say

It was interesting to see what Hunstanton laid on for the American Forces regarding the 1953 floods.

I felt I had to write this letter on behalf of my RAF pals at Swanton Morley, near Dereham. Like many people I was doing my National Service in 1953 when we had an emergency call for help.

We were transported to various locations from Wolferton to Salhouse. Many took great risks in saving lives. Sadly for some it was too late and this went on for three days and nights. When we were back at camp we talked about various incidents and to see strong men break down and cry was very sad.

I am now 81 and I expect a number have passed away by now but they will never be forgotten. Sadly, we were the unsung heroes who received no recognition whatsoever.

CJ Turner,
