In your article of February 26, regarding yet another round of regeneration, you write “The people of Hunstanton have set out plans… ”
Not this ‘people’ of Hunstanton! Nobody asked me. Nor, I suspect, the majority of the people of Hunstanton.
You must not be deceived into believing that the Hunstanton Coastal Community Team are representative of the majority of Hunstanton citizens. For a start the team has no democratic mandate – less than half have been elected and then to other bodies.
Many represent vested interest groups mostly concerned with trade or business. There are no representatives of the biggest section of the population – the retired.
Yet Michael Ruston, the vice-chairman of the Chamber of Trade, was quoted as saying “Our team members represent all strands of Hunstanton life”.
So again – No!
They do not represent my “strand of Hunstanton life”. Their interest is in increasing the profits of their businesses by bumping up the number of tourists . Understandable, but incompatible with those of us who seek retirement in tranquillity.
