Your correspondent Turnstone (Lynn News, November 24) correctly draws attention to the lazy planning attitude of our councils.

West Norfolk Borough Council appear unwilling to grasp the nettle of derelict sites, preferring to take the easier option of greenfield land. There are 11 acres of neglected “Delmonte land” in West Lynn, now like a Second World War bombsite. There are other sites such as the old Courts shop, the old Post Office Building and the old warehouse land on South Quay remains undeveloped. Expert “feet dragging” is the order of the day with seven to 20 years being used for compulsory purchases. It would be helpful to understand if a councillor would explain why they appear so powerless in a time of required action, or as Turnstone intimates, the developers are the real power behind the throne.
