The closure of Lynn Arts Centre galleries is as Andy Tyler says ‘sad’ for they represent more than wall space to hang pictures on.
It is the outreach into community and the help that has been given to many organisations that will be missed in a time when the effects of cutbacks are seriously being felt. The trust obviously feel they have done their best and cannot support a financial deficit, which is understandable. It is, however, a shame that many people are probably unaware of the real work done by the dedicated team of young people and volunteers that has been built up working with schools, young carers, young offenders, domestic abuse victims and the long term unemployed. And, what of the amateur artists and artisans and the collectors; where will they go? King’s Lynn will undoubtedly be a poorer place without its arts centre.
