I have watched with interest the progress of the heavy traffic control in Loke Road and Tennyson Avenue and I can sympathise with the residents’ frustration at the slow progress.
I live in Portland Street, which has been for the last 20 plus years, one of the major bus routes out of Lynn, with about 120 buses a day using the street. For the last two years I have been trying to get the highways department to review the failing condition of the road.
Before 2014 the houses did not shake when the buses came past, as they do now. Another problem is that some of the bus drivers tend to use the street like a rat-run and drive at excessive speed. Not a good idea in a highly populated area. My neighbour and I were hopeful, after we suffered the torment of being the temporary bus station for 16 weeks last year, that like all the other streets in the area, we would be resurfaced, but no. All that was done was a layer of tar with chippings laid on top, the whole operation taking less than one hour.
We have now resorted to asking Councillor David Collis to put our case, but so far no progress. Sometimes it feels like Portland Street is the Cinderella street of Lynn, but we refuse to give up. After all we campaigned for residents’ parking for over ten years and were told this would never happen… but now we have to pay to park outside our own properties.
