Another couple of pleasing photographs in the edition of January 5.
I am always keen to see non-professionals getting their images in print. Fairstead’s D Lowe is a regular but the “seagull” with eyelashes” really caught my attention. Gulls are such smart creatures, intelligent and in full breeding plumage very handsome. Marie Brewer’s entry from San Francisco is probably a herring gull, rather like those we see locally. In younger days I spent many challenging hours attempting to identify gulls in that part of the world where a handful of species regularly hybridise.
Biologically speaking, not quite “eyelashes” but who cares, still a nice photo. More please.
