This is a copy of a letter I have sent to Downham Amateur Dramatic Society, to thank them really for a totally joyous, fun performance of their latest venture, Sleeping Beauties.

I just wanted to say a very big thank you to everyone, both on stage and backstage for a truly joyous experience last Saturday afternoon.

Neither my wife nor I had ever attended one of DADS performances before, but we saw it advertised in the Lynn News and thought it sounded like a lot of fun. To be honest, it was the concept of the ‘Take Me Out’ vehicle that was the deciding factor, as we like the ITV show. It was evident that all of you guys thoroughly enjoyed the performance yourselves and the joy of what you were doing was written on your faces. I was enthralled by the whole story and all other thoughts of the real world and everyday problems were completely banished. The witch and the Dame were brilliant, and another great moment was when Sophia fell backwards into Maximus’s arms. The absolute joy at the final ‘Rolling Out The Pastry’ ensemble was so intense that I had to fight myself to stay sitting down – I could have just danced, and The Frog song really pulled at my heart strings as that was released in 1984 when I was 17 and starting my first job. Lastly, it was lovely to see when we arrived that the ‘Stars of the Show’ were checking us off the seating plan – that made it evident that everyone mucked in across the board.
