Have your say

With reference to the Turnstone article (Lynn News, March 22) and his remarks on my letter about the need of a swimming pool for our children.

The pool at Smithdon School has been closed because of maintenance. Too expensive is what has been said. This would be ideal for young people and should be taken up by our council, with support from former teachers and governors.

The Oasis is a spectacular place, but it has paid parking which is not what I had in mind.

The Smithdon was better for all the village schools and it would have been very welcome to us in the years 1954-1957. I was one of them and Wing Cdr Bolton marched us to the Seagulls birdbath. Turnstone called it the Blue Lagoon. It was freezing cold as I remember and we nick-named it Sheep Dip. The council pumped water from the sea through filters and it was all very rusted up.

In the early 1960s I was in Her Majesty’s Service and came back here in the 1970s.
