It was good to see in the Lynn News that 15-year-old Sam is learning bell ringing and also 80-year-old Hazel is still ringing after 25 years.
I am very proud to say that I have been ringing for 63 years at St Margaret’s, now Lynn Minster. I started there in November 1953 when the new vicar, the Rev Aubrey Aitken came to the youth centre in Lynn and asked for volunteers to learn how to ring the bells. I am also in my eighties. We ring the Minster bells each Sunday for morning service and for weddings and special occasions. Recently we rang half muffled for a former mayor’s funeral as a tribute. We have a good team but more are always needed. I must stress it takes a number of weeks before anyone can handle a bell rope on their own and then ring in a team. Practice evenings are Mondays from 7.30pm and new learners are always welcome. As St Nicholas Chapel bells will soon be ready, ringers will be needed.
