DOWNHAM Croquet Club plays in the beautiful grounds of Stow Hall, Stow Bardolph. The club has been there for nearly 20 years and always welcomes new entrants.
There are two principal versions of croquet – Golf and Association. The former is a single shot game and most people will pick up the basics in 15 minutes.

The latter is a more challenging sport involving the creation of breaks, as in snooker, by using all four balls on the lawn.

Not many people realise that the UK team is the best in the world and regularly wins the international test series called the Macrobertson Shield against teams from Australia, New Zealand and the USA.

The Stow club enjoys themselves and competes in a league against other clubs in the county.

Coaching will be available on Wednesday evenings from mid-May. If you are interested in this or a trial session call Jonathan Toye on 01366 382280.
