There was a bit of a break from just stock car and banger action at the Lynn Summer Carnival held at the Norfolk Arena on Saturday, with the additional entertainment provided by the team from Moto-Stunts International, who performed two shows during the course of the evening.
Their shows featured amazing motorbike jumps and crashes through burning obstacles and also displayed an amazing converted collection of quad bikes, trikes, motorbikes and jeeps.
In the 2 Litre Bangers, the very hectic schedule of fixtures finally
took its toll with the entry being the smallest of 2008 so far.
The extra space on track suited some, with Davey Cox (Swaffham) in particular looking very impressive as he glided through the bends with perfectly balanced power slides in his Mk3 Ford Granada.
The opening race of the night saw Nicky Young (Wisbech) lead until he tangled with the backmarking Paul Bowen (Lynn) which allowed Dan Burton (Wellingborough) to claim his third Lynn victory of the year.
Second race: Darren Fendley (Lynn) finally put an end to a long spell of bad luck by winning this one. Final: A freak incident saw Bowen get spun out at the end of the straight and he was hit by four cars.
As the medics arrived to check on Bowen, it was clear that he had suffered some ill effects from the number of hits he had taken and the different directions that his car had been thrown.
With the emergency services in attendance, it was determined that the driver would need to be cut from the car and this caused the early abandonment of the meeting with three races still to run.
Bowen was diagnosed with a fractured pelvis and damage to an elbow upon arrival at hospital. Best wishes from the TSR team and Norfolk Arena staff go to Paul for a speedy recovery.
Also in action were the 1300 Stock Cars who produced a big field of cars, helped along by four from the Arena Essex raceway.
Another big crash in this race saw Steve McMillan (Lynn) spun out into a marker tyre on the home straight at full racing speed. Alan Coleman (Spalding) was the winner.
The second heat was even harder hitting, won by Carl Waterfield (Littleport). Final – not run due to the early termination of the meeting.
Completing the show and providing the highlight of the night for most people were the Reliant three-wheelers. Phil Rowbottom (Northampton) won. In the second race former World champion Darron Atkins was the winner.
The next session at Lynn which features two days of racing action.
