TWO footballers from the College of West Anglia are on the verge of making the final squad of the British Colleges team.
Alex Street and Danny Escorcio were put forward to attend the British Colleges regional trials at Huntingdon Regional College, back in September.

Having progressed through that, they were invited to represent the Eastern region in a national tournament, where they impressed, and made it into the last 33 of the country.

The next step for the duo is a training and trial weekend at Lilleshall in December, after which, the squad will be narrowed down to 22.

Steve Lilley, from CoWA, said: "It`s great news for the boys.

"They`ve both worked extremely hard at their individual games this season, and deserve this opportunity.

"Both have bags and bags of ability and, providing they avoid the temptations that young people face, and continue to work hard, they could go on to play at a good level.

"They certainly have the technical ability and physical attributes to be successful."

The pair are part of the College of West Anglia`s Elite Football Programme, sponsored by Thurlow Nunn.

They train three times a week under the guidance of Steve Lilley, who has organised a series of friendly fixtures throughout the season, against the likes of Southend United, Norwich City, Cambridge United and other pro clubs.

Street (kindly sponsored by Paul Bate Building Services) is a goalkeeper, and plays for Wisbech Town FC in the Ridgeons Premier League.

He represented the English Colleges National team last season, and is developing into a strong, dominant goalkeeper with such presence for someone so young.

Street is also training with Cambridge United FC once a week, having impressed for Wisbech Town against CRC recently

Danny (kindly sponsored by NORCAM Sportswear) plays for March Town United FC in Ridgeons Division One.

He is a centre forward with excellent technique and an eye for goal.

He is currently on a work-based Learning course, in which he divides his time between coaching for a multisports company in Peterborough, and coming into the college to complete his portfolio.
