Lovewell Blake,

Norfolk Alliance,

Premier Division.

Downham Town (5pts) had a losing draw v Cromer (17)

Cromer 192-7 in 45 overs (R. Arendse 108, T. Davies 25; A. Todd 10-3-21-1, Angus Stuart 3-0-18-0, Alex Stuart 9-1-40-1, P. Barnard 12-2-52-3, A. Phangiso 12-2-48-2).

Downham Town 107-8 in 45 ov (D. Lanchester 23, D. Tulett 24 not out).

Cromer bravely chose to bat on a wet Town pitch in a rain-affected game on Saturday.

South African Rayno Arendse backed up his skipper's bravery with a stunning century to take Cromer to the top of the league after three weekends.

Arendse, who made 108, was a class above anyone else as the next top score in the whole game was 25.

Things could have been much different if a hard chance early in his innings had been taken.

Most other players struggled in the bowler-friendly conditions but some loose bowling early on helped Cromer on their way.

Addam Todd was the pick of the Downham bowlers while Aaron Phangiso and Peter Barnard bowled well in tandem to restrict the classy Arendse. Cromer's total was one they would surely have taken at the toss.

Town started badly as Alex Stuart played on in the first over and at the halfway stage were 59 for 5 with the total way out of reach.

The pitch was drying quickly and the Cromer bowlers made full use of it as Town battled on for batting points and to stop their high-flying opponents from gaining victory.

Duncan Lanchester and opener Barnard gave some hope, but it was left to Dom Tulett to see Town to safety and collect a valuable batting point.

Downham Tandoori Man-of-the-Match: Addam Todd.
