Cycling: Nino takes first in ten-mile trial
LYNN Cycling Club. The Lynn Cycling Club 10 mile time trial attracted 92 riders from East Anglia and East Midland clubs.
Conditions were ideal with only a light east wind on the Tottenhill/Bexwell/Wormegay course.
Lynn riders were highly placed with Nino Piccoli taking first place in 21m 27s, second P. Balls (West Suffolk Whs) 21m 47s, third A. Newark (Planet X) 22m 38s, Adrian Porter finding form, took fourth in 22m 39s, Gary Rushmore eighth 22m 51s.
The aggregate times of Nino, Adrian and Gary secured the team award for Lynn CC in 1hr 06m 57s.
Other Lynn riders: 11 Jason Nixon 23m 19s, 12 Martin Long 23m 25s, Gary Smith 24m 28s, Darren Russell 24m 44s, Simon Hardy 25m 32s, Jason Gollaglee 26m 23s, Steve Bristow 26m 41s, David Jewson 27m 07s, Maurice Minchin 27m 22s, Glyndon Allum 28m 30s, Luke Harman 30m 15s, Kevin Younge 30m 54s. Fastest lady Emilie Fisher (XRT) 25m 17s.
Fastest veteran on standard D. Brown (North Lancashire RC) 24m 23s a plus of 7m 37s. First handicap T. Finch (Norwich ABC) 24m 51s. Junior M. Cook (Mildenhall CC) 25m 35s. The event was organised by Geoff Allum assisted by club members, timekeepers Andy Moore, Alan Guy and Owen Crisp.
Good conditions prevailed for the Wisbech Wheelers 25 mile TT on the Terrington St John by-pass. Lynn riders took advantage of the conditions with three personal best rides achieved.
Gary Rushmore was fastest Lynn rider in 56m 25s taking fifth place, followed by Adrian Porter, eighth with 57m 27s.
The first pb went to Martin Long, who with Jason Nixon (second pb) beat the hour for the first time, Martin producing a cracking 57m 44s and Jason 58m 53s, also taking second and third handicap and ninth and fourteenth respectively from a field of 56 riders.
Consistent Gary Smith finished in 1hr 02m 01s. David Jewson rode to a year's best in 1hr 05m 38s. The third pb went to Simon Hardy, who rode to the event from Lynn, 1hr 05m 53s. Ever keen veteran Geoff Allum (70) recorded 1hr 10m 38s.
The aggregate times of Gary, Adrian and Martin gave them second team position in 2hr 51m 27s. Event winner J. Tuckett (AW cycles Co Uk/Giant) 52m 43s.
Jason Nixon competed in two Ely and Dist CC evening club 10 miles, between Witchford and Sutton. In the first event Jason produced a pb of 23m 07s for second place. In the second event, although slower due to harder conditions, Jason was first in 23m 25s. In the Ely club 15 mile TT on the Sutton/Erith/Sutton course, Jason recorded 30m 21s for third place.
Nino Piccoli, riding in the colours of Lynn CC for the last time, competed in round four of the Rudy Project Series on a circuit east of Newmarket.
In the event, which was promoted by the East District Cycling Association, Nino was third placed espoir having covered the hilly 31.9 miles in very hot conditions in 1hr 15m 51s. Fastest espoir R. Meadows (Penzula RT) 1hr 13m 40s.
Catherine Essex was in superb form when riding the Bossard Wheelers 10 mile TT on the A505 near Leighton Buzzard.
