Downham: Leisure centre expansion completed

DOWNHAM Leisure Centre's expansion project is complete.
After spending a quater of a million pounds, the new gym facillities opened ahead of schedule, on Tuesday.
The new equipment includes brand new cardiovascular and resistance fitness equipment, which has been fitted by specialists Life Fitness.
Councillor Elizabeth Nockolds, cabinet member for sports, arts and open spaces said: "This extension and all the new equipment will make it much easier for people to come in to exercise in a much more spacious enviroment."
She added: "We really hope that it will encourage many local residents to take up a healthy, active lifestyle."
The extension was due for completion in July and has been completed within budget.
Downham and district sports manager, Niel Gromett, said: "We would like to thank our customers for being so patient while this work has been underway. We would also like to thank Downham High School for being so supportive throughout this project.'"
The temporary measures in place for aerobics and the main hall activities will be returned to normal over the coming week. Customers will be advised of any changes.
