CRICKET: Lovewell Blake Norfolk Alliance Premier Division
Downham Town (23pts) beat Acle (8pts) by 1 wkt

Acle 202 for 8 wkts in 50 overs (Angus Stuart 8-2-25-1, A. Todd 13-2-61-1, A. Phangiso 13-1-49-2, P. Barnard 8-1-25-2, J. Stuart 4-0-21-2, Alex Stuart 4-0-16-0).

Downham Town 203 for 9 wkts in 49.2 ov (A. Stuart 61, A. Phangiso 27 , D. Lanchester 31, A. Todd 28 not out).

A thrilling finish saw Rob King hit a six to win the game with four balls remaining as Town go top of the table, seven points clear after two games.

An excellent game of cricket played in good spirits was won by Town's never say die batting line up and catches spilled by the visitors.

Earlier in the day Acle opted to bat first on a dry Town pitch.

Angus Stuart clean bowled Franks in his second over to bring Kiwi Short to the crease.

He and Porter put on 63 for the second wicket before Porter was caught at mid-on by Andrew Arndt off the bowling of Peter Barnard.

Aaron Phangiso then had Adam Munford caught in the same fashion by Duncan Lanchester as Town took the upper hand.

Huggins and Short then took the score to 94 before the fluent Kiwi was smartly stumped by keeper Rob King for a well made 61.

Joss Stuart struck immediately as the away skipper found the safe hands of brother Alex Stuart on the deep square leg boundary and followed that by bowling Wilson round his legs.

Huggins was joined by Newman and both batted sensibly to get Acle back into the game before Huggins was stumped by King off Phangiso and Addam Todd had Rowe caught by King.

Alex Stuart and Barnard started slowly for Town but as Stuart became the aggressor the score moved onto 66 off 17 overs before Barnard was run out and then Arndt was adjudged lbw to Porter.

Stuart was next to go for a well constructed 59 followed quickly by Dom Tulett lbw to Franks as Acle turned the screw.

A 55 run stand by Phangiso and Lanchester took the score to 140 before Phangiso was well caught by a sprawling Short and with Angus Stuart another lbw victim the game again swung the visitors' way.

Lanchester was caught behind off Rowe to leave Todd and Joss Stuart to rebuild the innings.

Stuart hit some much needed boundaries before falling lbw to Newman.

A brief flurry from Ash Corbett was halted by Newman to leave last pair Todd, who played the last few overs excellently, and King to see Town over the line in a game they hardly deserved to win.

Downham Tandoori Man-of-the-Match: Alex Stuart.
