Pelicans made the trek down to Broxbourne unsure what to expect from the recently demoted side.
Fielding a nearly full-strength squad Pelicans could have barely sent a stronger side and from the off they dominated the play preventing Broxbourne from gaining any meaningful possession.
This week Pelicans began to convert that advantage into shots on target from the off with Ash Corbett and Ian Simons both going close.
Pelicans quickly took the lead when Nick Henry's short corner flick was saved on the line. Gav Johnstone was close by to stuff in the rebound to give Pelicans a very early lead.
Ash Corbett then found the target following neat play from a long corner, Kerry's powerful run shifting play to the right where Dowers in space then calmly found Corbett.
Chris Page then added his name to the scoresheet from the set piece before his brother Iain scrambled another home to take the tally to four within a matter of 20 minutes.
A moment of madness saw Johnstone red carded for Pelicans for violent conduct, while two Broxbourne players only received yellows.
A player down, Pelicans became a little too defensive in the early stages and conceded from a short corner quickly into the second half.
Pelicans responded via the Page brothers.
Iain, released quickly down the left by Geoff Ellis, raced the length of the pitch only to be fouled in the penalty area, the resulting penalty flick being duly dispatched by brother Chris.
It was then up to the midfield to keep Broxbourne at bay with Page, Henry, Walpole and Grady battling well.
Both Dowers and Ellis surged forward at numerous times, creating a number of chances, one of which Ric Corbett had disallowed.
Ellis wasted two opportunities, while Walpole fired over from close range.
King's Lynn Audi Man of the Match: Paul Aldous for the three fine saves that kept Pelicans in the game.
Pelicans play Bourne at home this weekend and will push back at 3.30pm.
Pelicans Vets 4 Peterborough 2
FOLLOWING two warm-up matches it was down to league action for the first time and the home side deserved the points in a well-contested fixture.
Pelicans opened up a two-goal lead within the first quarter, Charlie Lankfer slipping the ball to MoM Paul Searle, who comfortably slotted home before further incisive passing led to James Caley doubling the advantage.
The visitors, always spirited opponents, were never out of the game, giving Jim Major and his fellow defenders suffcient work and before the break they halved the deficit.
Lankfer's well-struck effort from just outside the area was ruled out on the stroke of half-time.
Judicious use of substitutions by skipper Bob King to preserve tiring legs helped Pelicans stay in command with Ian Hotchin's solo strike reviving a two-goal lead only for an opportunist strike to pull it back to 3-2.
