Rugby: Hilgay brothers' first steps into pro
HILGAY brothers Jonathan and Andrew Harris are taking the first steps on the road to becoming professional rugby players.
They have both caught the eye of Leicester Tigers.
Seventeen-year-old sixth former and promising prop, Jonathan leaves the King's School, Ely, at the end of this term to join the top rugby club's academy programme.
His talent was spotted early on and when he was only 14 he was playing for Eastern Counties under 16 squad.
Andrew (14), who is in Year 10 at King's, has been invited to join the Tigers' elite player development group and gave a good account of himself in the second row in his first match at the club's Oval Park ground.
Their older brother Alex (19) was a member of Eastern Counties U18 squad while he was at King's.
He spent a gap year working in New Zealand where he was selected for a provincial team.
Now in his first year at Leeds University, he has been called out from the subs' bench for first team matches this year and looks likely to be a regular member of the team next season.
Jonathan said: "We would both like to play rugby professionally and Leicester Tigers offer us both a great opportunity."
Both brothers agree that their ultimate ambition would be to play for their country.
