LINNETS boss Keith Webb said that trialists Kevin Horlock and Kieran Deane do not feature in his squad-building plans.
Former Manchester City, West Ham and Ipswich midfielder Horlock and ex-Dagenham and Redbridge and Cambridge City flanker Deane will not be offered deals.

Both men have played a couple of pre-season friendlies for Blue Square North-bound Lynn.

Against touring Scottish Division One team Clyde in midweek, Horlock was outshone by Ben Sedgemore before being subbed on the hour, while Deane played the whole game at right-back.

Webb said: "Neither Kevin or Kieran have given me enough for me to think about releasing a couple of players in order to get them in.

"I'm looking at opportunities to see what's out there, but the position I'm in is that they've got to be a lot better than what we've got.

"If they're not, then there's no point in bringing them in.

"They've got to be good players, as the ones we've got are pretty good enough already."

Webb does not expect to get any players in before the weekend. With Deane out of the picture, and Dean West released by the club, the right-back spot is up for grabs.

Webb added: "Simon Weaver's played there, and Charlie Defty can do the job.

"I was concerned about putting Charlie in at centre-back last season, but he was probably the most consistent player in that period."

Although local product Defty may not quite have the height for that position, Webb said: "I like my centre-backs to be big and dominant.

"I'm looking at it with a view of him at right-back. I'm prepared to give him that chance at the moment.

"He did alright on Tuesday at left-back. I've got a lot of time for him as a player. He's a good player, and his quality isn't always recognised."

Webb has other defensive options if injuries arise, like Mark Camm and Mark Peters.

Lynn travel across Norfolk to Great Yarmouth tomorrow (Saturday).

If Peters and Michael Frew, who missed Tuesday's game, do not recover, then Webb will not gamble on using them.
