THE West Norfolk Inter Village Games has been revamped to make it easier to enter, and a new website with details of the event is now available at: www.intervillage games. co.uk
Organisers have changed a number of rules in an effort to attract more entries. Single entries are now allowed so if a village wants to enter just one event then it can.

Juniors are allowed to play in some senior events too. While the residential rules remain in place, up to four adjoining villages are allowed to join together to form teams.

There are separate sections for small and medium sizes villages. Entries are free for Lets Get Active 08-09.

Events on offer include: l 5-a-side Football (adult and under 16).

  • Mini-Soccer (U11).

  • Badminton and Table Tennis (adult and U16).

  • Netball (adult and U16).

  • Indoor Bowls (adult and U16).

  • Athletics (adult and U16 combined).

  • Gymnasticators (junior "Gladiators") (U11).

  • Inter-cricket (U14).

There are 17 sports events in total catering for a wide variety of ages.

Organised annually by the borough council, last year the Mayor, cllr Kathy Mellish described the day as "West Norfolk's very own Olympic Games!"

Cllr Elizabeth Nockolds, council's cabinet member for sports, arts and open spaces, added: "It is both a competitive and fun day for all concerned and it's a great spectacle to see the whole of the Lynnsport complex taken over for the day by our villages. I do hope we will see more entries this year."

Defending small village champions are Docking. Village manager, Maria Crompton, said: "Our village is really looking forward to the event again and we look set to enter teams in most of the events.

"The Games are a great day out and it really creates a lot of enthusiasm. I too hope a few more villages raise teams this year – it would be good to play against new villages."

The Games take place on Sunday, June 29, at Lynnsport and the closing date for entries is Friday, May 30.

Entry forms can be printed and sent in from the website or by phoning the borough sports development unit on 01553 818015/7.

They are also available at all borough leisure facilities.
