Anglers bask in sun

AS the temperatures rose over a scorching week anglers gathered their rods and headed for the water, all KLAA waters busy during the last week.

On the river front, sadly Saturday's 1st open match was cancelled due to a very poor response with only a couple of anglers actually booking in. Maybe the matchmen out there should tell us what they want and where they would like to fish, We know we cannot please everyone but if anyone has any suggestions let us know.

Middle Level, good catches reported from some parts, St Marys again staring the season well with plenty of mixed nets around, roach, rudd skimmers, all showing close to the inside line, while the odd carp are showing on the far side on the shallow bar as the river splits. The odd bream cruising in the upper layers but late or early sessions are more rewarding for these.

Peters also seen a fair amount of anglers during the last week also reports of some good mixed bags from either side of the bridge. roach taking baits up in the water also skimmers on the same line, nets to 18lb reported.

Neepes to Crooked Chimney also plenty of anglers around with the odd angler reporting the bigger fish , but mainly skimmers and roach are baring the fruits of the nets caught. Tip anglers proving more successful at this end of the level.

Pingles showing good signs of the tench as a few have been reported from this end of the level, this seems to be a favoured place for these fish as this produced more tench last year than any other river venue. reports of tench to over 6lb recorded.

Ten Mile Bank, better start to the season than last year as bream showing around the piggeries, also a few roach being taken on the pole lines supported by the odd skimmer and perch. chopped worm over a bed of ground bait for best results.

Wissey Mouth, only the odd bream showing but a couple of sightings of the big carp moving around the mouth, the odd tench also showing in the margin.

Other hot spots include the Railway Bridge through to Browns Farm with plenty of mixed catches, nets to over 12lb reported, and plenty of roach showing between Squeaks Corner and the Owl Box, also a few bigger fish beginning to show.

Tottenhill, busy of late especially late on the day as the temperatures cool off, plenty of fish showing on the method feeder with corn or pellet attracting the carp, also bream showing on the tip to when using carp based ground baits and applying a worm or meat on the hook. catches to over 40lb being the average.

Shepherds Port, the story continues on Shepherds Lake as anglers continue to have some great days of pleasure fishing, all species being caught, all methods working well.

Queens a few anglers about also reporting catches but early morning sessions proving to be more rewarding, bream to 6lb being the average.

Bear Lake again finding its form of late with catch rates up on this time last year, plenty of carp showing from 8oz to nearly 6.5lb. nets to over 60 lb reported.

Notice – congratulations to both Bill Morris and Darren Reed on passing their Level 2 coaching course. Both are now fully trained qualified coaches.
