Sport - Angling: Ten Mile Bank in fine start to 2012
KLAA
By Darren Reed
THE last seven days has seen a major improvement on the KLAA’s favoured winter venue of Ten Mile Bank.
Plenty of roach and skimmers and even bream have been taking the baits on offer.
Chapel to Modney Bridge has became a firm favourite and the fish tend to be drawn into this area during the winter.
This year has been no exception and nets more than 25lb have been showing during the last week with bream, skimmers and roach providing the bulk of the nets caught.
The Owl Box to Danby Drove has also shown a lot of activity as several anglers have taken to the bank.
Bream and skimmers have both appeared on both the tip and the pole line.
Groundbait has been used to keep the fish in the swim and bronze and red maggot presented on the hook has brought some rewards.
No net weights have been received, but estimated nets to near double-figures have been lodged.
Denver to Piggeries has seen the odd angler find the fish.
Skimmers to a 1lb and quality roach have been showing, although not as frequent as the other stretches.
Pike anglers have also been present on the banks between the Wissey Mouth and Brown’s Farm.
A few decent pike have been reported, with four weighing more than 20lb and another couple between 6 and 8lb.
A few jacks to 4lb have also been found on this stretch.
Popped up dead baits and live baits have been proved successful.
Small plugs and jelly shads have found the smaller fish, including the odd perch to over a pound.
Allthough not flowing as usual, a few fish have been showing on the Little Ouse.
A lot of fish are holding around the bridge area so the first few pegs have been rewarding until you move further away from the bridge.
Shepherd’s Lake is still fishing very well as the milder conditions continue.
As the winds dropped, bites became more frequent from the silvers.
Bread, pinkie and maggot have all worked well on both the whip and waggler and tip fishing has been rewarding with the bigger stamp of roach and rudd showing near the middle of the lake.
Carp have appeared at the top end of the lake and small single baits have been successful over a tiny bed of feed.
Pole anglers also found the fish between 7 and 11 metres.
Small carp and skimmers have been showing on these lines, while plenty of roach and rudd have appeared over a small-baited loose fed area.
Ground bait has also been used to hold the feeding fish in the swim.
The next meeting of the Lynn PAC will take place on Thursday, January 26, at the William Burt Centre (7.30pm).
The guest speaker will be top pike angler and TV fishing presenter Mick Brown.
