THE annual Bespak GEAR and Mini Gear was launched this week with the expectation of a bumper turnout for the Olympic year.
Since the 10k event began in 2006 it has gone from strength-to-strength with an increasing number of participants annually.
Bespak’s Bergen Way site hosted the launch and the company have agreed to support the event for at least another three years, which would make it a decade under their sponsorship.
Managing director Joe Barry, said: “This is our major manufacturing site so King’s Lynn is very important to us, that’s why we have signed up for another three years sponsoring GEAR.
“My main aim is to get more employees involved and we hope to have at least 30 to 40 workers running on the day.”
GEAR has always had a positive impact on Lynn, as West Norfolk councillor Elizabeth Nockolds, stressed: “It has really helped regenerate King’s Lynn promoting new business and tourism in the area. People come from all over the country to run in GEAR.”
West Norfolk Council’s sports development manager, Roger Partridge, said: “We are looking for over 2,000 entrants this year. I urge people to get active in the Olympic year and enter GEAR.”
Sunday, May 6, is the date of the run so there’s plenty of time to get in shape.
