No light shed yet on Olympic torch

Details of the precise route of the Olympic torch when it reaches Fakenham will not be revealed until two weeks before it happens, the town council has learned.

Keen to anticipate the event and prepare to welcome the torch to the centre of the town rather than its outskirts, councillors at Tuesday’s town council meeting questioned county councillor David Callaby about details of the route ahead of the Games’ start in July.

“I’m afraid I can’t tell you anything at this stage,’ he said at this month’s town council meeting.

“This is not only a national event but an international one and for reasons of national security nothing will be revealed until two weeks before the torch is due to reach Fakenham.”
