Ryston trio fall for Stamford race
Three Ryston members absented themselves from the club’s cross country event to take part in the Stamford Valentines 30K road race.
In what one of them described as “the best running conditions they had ever experienced – cool, dry, sunny, with just a light breeze,” Simon Levy ran an impressive 1.59.46 to be placed 26th overall.
Jeremy Navrady placed 371st, in a time of 2.43.54, and Helen Melville 385th with 2.45.46.
For Levy and Melville, this was a positive indicator that their training for the VLM is on course, while for Narvady it was confirmation that a spring marathon is definitely now on the cards, and he will be lining up alongside several club mates for the Bungay event on April 14.
Lucy Chessor of Fenland AC, a second claim member of Ryston, took the honours in the W35 category with a fine run that saw her cover the course in 2.09.
Last week, we incorrectly reported that both Amy Thorpe and Hannah Greenhalgh competed in the 60 metres hurdle final at the Keith Ward Memorial Meeting, at Lynnsport, when it should have read Amy Thorpe and Emma Dewdney.
