FORMULA One commentator Martin Brundle has made a contribution to the new out-of-hours blood courier service now available to Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital free-of-charge.
Mr Brundle has donated £1,000 to Service by Emergency Rider Volunteers Norfolk (SERV) which will be put towards the funding of new bikes and petrol costs. His support is ongoing as he directs others to donate.
David Parish, county secretary for SERV Norfolk, said: “The donation is a very useful sum of money and will be going towards paying for new tyres. We’re really grateful to Martin for his support.”
SERV is a voluntary organisation which started only a month ago.
It has around 80 registered riders who will be on call to transfer vital medical supplies, including blood, out of hospital hours. The service is self-funded thanks to money raised by dedicated volunteers which means the NHS is free to divert funds to other worthy causes.
The estimated annual running costs of the service are around £20,000 and will be entirely reliant on donations and sponsorship by local companies. To offer corporate sponsorship, visit servnorfolk.org.uk.
