Ex-Premiership starlet on verge of Lynn move

Lynn – who begin pre-season training on July 2 – were yesterday closing in on the signing of a left-sided youngster who was with a Premiership club last season.

Assistant-boss Andy Johnson said: "The player concerned has been highly-recommended to me by someone I respect in the game.

"He is very tenacious and very fit and strong. He is very highly thought of by the academy director at the club."

Johnson admitted the new season can't come quick enough.

"I can't wait," admitted Johnson.

"A lot of hard work has been put in by both Carl and myself and we are very excited about it all.

"The formation and how we want to play will be drilled into the players from the start, so everyone will know what's expected of them come the start of the season."

The Linnets are working hard on arranging some more prestigious friendlies.

Lynn are talking to two Football League clubs and a Premiership club about the possibility of bringing sides to The Walks.

Manager Heggs said: "We are working hard on bringing other league sides to the club, one of which would be a very prestige friendly.

"It's very difficult trying to arrange games this time of year. It's not just a case of picking the phone up and asking Manchester United to come down.

"Most of the big clubs finalise their pre-season friendlies in January or February so we're fighting a losing battle to start with."

Heggs will hold talks with youngster Ross Kelly tomorrow, while Dominic Dwyer's summer vacation to the United States of America is likely to go ahead.
