Denver FC is one of two Norfolk football clubs proud to be owners of brand new, ultra-safe, state-of-the-art goal posts thanks to a recent campaign launched by the UK’s leading manufacturer of goals, posts and nets, entitled ‘Saddest Goal Posts.’
Throughout February, Harrod UK ran an incentive in conjunction with the Institute of Groundsmanship (IOG) to identify locations in Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex with glum and potentially unsafe goal posts in order to replace them, for free, with the sublime.
Thanks to the support of local communities, schools, councils, football associations and clubs, Harrod UK received an overwhelming number of nominations, with playing fields at Scarning United Football Club and Denver Football Club being selected as the successful locations in Norfolk.
James Emmerson, treasurer for Denver Football Club, said: “Our old square posts have raised eyebrows for some time due to their shape, but closer inspection shows they are badly rusted and warped following an unfortunate collision with some plant machinery. Having equipment that we can now be proud of is a huge boost to the club, and we will forever be grateful to this wonderful scheme by Harrod UK.”
In recent years The Football Association has claimed there are too many serious injuries and fatalities occurring as a result of unsafe or incorrectly used goal posts, which is why Harrod UK launched the campaign.
