Thurlow Nunn Football League

Two local teams gave themselves a chance of escaping the relegation zone with midweek wins.

Premier Division

Fakenham Town FC 1 Thetford Tn 0

Ashley Jarvis’s goal lifted Fakenham Town out of the relegation zone in their must-win derby game against Thetford Town at Clipbush Park.

The Ghosts made it seven points from nine.

Jarvis skipped through the Thetford defence and flicked the ball past the keeper after 60 minutes.

Tuesday night’s “pay what you want” attendance at Clipbush Park fetched 95 fans.

Fakenham: Rix, Akers, Garner, Youngs, Gilchrist, Franks, Garner, Harvey (c), Plumb, Jarvis, Williams. Subs: Claxton, Brain, Gray, Brooks, Smith.

Division One

Gt Yarmouth 0 Downham 1

The work put in over recent months by the Downham players and coaching staff alike finally paid off with a disciplined display which was capped off with a cool finish from Andy Willmott midway through the second half to secure a fine away win.

Promotion chasing Yarmouth were limited to arguably half chances as Downham’s defensive discipline complimented some great counter attacking play. On the one occasion Yarmouth did get through the attacker blazed over from 12 yards out.

As a desperate Yarmouth went pushed forward looking for at least a point Downham had a good few chances to increase the lead but the only goal proved to be enough.
