Downham Town Football Club expect to make an appointment quickly within the next fortnight following the departure of manager Mark Reeve.

Secretary George Dickson revealed that the Thurlow Nunn League Division One club has already received interest from “two high-calibre” applicants after Reeve stood down this week (see page 124).

Dickson praised the work of Reeve, who has guided the Memorial Field outfit – which has struggled in recent years – to the comfortable mid-table spot of 12th place.

Dickson said: “A real big thanks to Mark. He’s done a lot to move the team forward.

“He has made us from a bottom of the table club to a mid-table club.

“Other managers had already heard on the grapevine he had left the club. The work he has done has encouraged other people to come forward and made sure the club is moving in the right direction.”

He urged any other prospective managers to contact the club as soon as possible.

“It will be a very short application process as we have already had two high-calibre applicants. We hope to make an appointment within a week or two at the latest,” added Dickson.

Applications can made in the first instance by calling George Dickson on 07841 934026 or via the club contacts on the league’s website at http://thurlownunnleague.co.uk/

Downham tomorrow travel to third-place Saffron Walden Town, one of three teams tied at the top of the Division One table on 31 points.
