Fakenham Town Football Club maintain they are innocent following the decision of Norfolk FA to replay their Norfolk Senior Cup tie against Diss Town on Tuesday, February 21.
The Ghosts had originally won their Quarter-Final 1-0 last week.
Norfolk FA announced on Friday: “Following a meeting of our Sub Cup Committee, the Norfolk Senior Cup Quarter Final tie between Diss Town & Fakenham Town will be replayed on Tuesday 21 February at Brewers Green Lane with a 7.45pm kick-off. This is due to player eligibility issues concerning Fakenham Town. Both teams will be in tonight’s Semi Final draw.”
The club stated in reply: “Fakenham Town Football Club would like to clarify their position in response to the ‘Player Eligibility Issues’ decision by the Norfolk FA to replay the tie against Diss Town.
“Team selection for the tie in question was made around all available resources regarding player eligibility and we, as a club, have adhered to those resources to the letter.
“All documentation available prior to the game (and still available now) stated/states clearly that suspensions would start on 13/02/2017 – two days after the tie in question, therefore we didn’t see any eligibility issues at the time, and can’t understand how the decision has been made to replay the tie.
“As a club, we are not happy with, and certainly do not agree with the ruling made earlier today – and feel we have been unfairly blamed for an error that we have not made.”
Fakenham took their frustrations out on the pitch by bagging a 1-0 Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division win at Stanway Rovers on Saturday, helped by Joss Neale being sent off for two yellow cards. Ashley Jarvis netted from the penalty spot.
Ricky Claxton scored nine at Clipbush Park in Fakenham Reserves’ 12-0 win over Sheringham Res. Scorers: Claxton 9, Brain, Harrison, East.
