Fakenham Town FC got their 2016/17 Thurlow Nunn League Premier season off to a winning start on Saturday with home success at Clipbush Park.
The Ghosts, who had finished fourth from bottom last season, beat Hadleigh United 2-0.
Ashley Jarvis scored the first Ghosts goal of the campaign, while George Abbot replaced Matt Franks in the first half.
Sam Garner scored an early contender for goal of the season to make it 2-0 on the hour, his cross/shot from the right wing sailing into the net.
Meanwhile, Swaffham Town, also reprieved from relegation, drew 1-1 at Saffron Walden Town with Jake Platten scoring the Pedlars’ equaliser with virtually the last kick of the game, in front of a large crowd of 233.
The Pedlars defence was marshalled by new centre back, Danny Tindall, and denied the Bloods an opening.
The best chance for Swaffham came 30 minutes in. Mikey Thompson laid off to Platten, who was unable to get his knee over the ball, and his effort went over the bar. Walden had more first half chances on target but man of the match ’keeper Aaron Watson denied them.
On 74 minutes, the hosts went ahead when Swaffham were caught on the counter. Watson blocked the initial shot but the centre forward converted the deflected ball.
