Fakenham Town play host to Norfolk rivals Swaffham Town this evening at Clipbush Park, kick-off 7.45pm, in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division.

Wayne Anderson’s side came crashing back down to earth after booking their place in the final of the Norfolk Senior when they were thumped 5-0 at league leaders Mildenhall Town last weekend, so will be looking to bounce back when Paul Hunt’s side make the short trip to Fakenham.

Hunt’s Pedlars picked up a hard-earned point after a spirited display last weekend, which saw them hold Haverhill Rovers to a 2-2 draw at Shoemakers Lane; giving a young Swaffham side a confidence boost ahead of tonight’s local derby.

Despite their cup run, Fakenham Town have struggled for consistency since the start of 2017, which is something that Anderson is keen to address in the closing weeks of the season.

“We know it has been too up and down since Christmas,” he told the Lynn News.

“We have put in some big performances in the league and got some really good results but then the next week we just haven’t been at the races.

“We can still finish the season strongly, hopefully high mid-table, which given where we were this time last year, shows that we have come a long way but you always want to keep getting better.

“We know Swaffham have struggled but I have a lot of respect for Huntie (Paul Hunt, Swaffham Town manager) he is a great guy, who knows the game inside out and has a decent record at this level; we will respect them as we do every team.

“If we can put a shift in then hopefully it will kick start a bit of a run to finish off the season on a high, ahead of the final in May.”

In the First Division tomorrow, Downham Town will be looking to build on an impressive performance on Tuesday night which saw the Memorial Field side enjoy a 4-2 victory over Diss Town; with a brace from Matthew Bussens and strikes from Andy Willmott and James Dougal securing the three points for Pav Guziejko’s side.

Cornard United make the trip to West Norfolk to take on Downham, 3pm tomorrow, with the hosts looking to take another step towards securing a strong mid-table finish.

King’s Lynn Town Reserves travel to Team Bury.
